Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
AUDITION AUDITION AUDITION!. Think, if you don't, there is no way you can get cast!. If you know the play, and have a few specific characters in mind that you would like to play, performing the monologue in the style of that character will give your director some insight that you are capable of playing that part!. I'm sure the school drama teacher has a few monologue books laying around, but if not the library always does!. Once you get your hands on one, the next step is just reading until you find one you feel is right!. If libraries aren't your thing, get online and search, but I will warn you that the online monologues are not nearly as good as the book monologues!. Keep your monologue between 1-2 minutes, unless otherwise specified!.

Now PRACTICE! Nothing alleviates nerves like feeling prepared!. Practice in front of a mirror and have every line memorized!. Work on making the character believable!. Use arm motions when it seems right, and memorize your movement!. Basic acting class has an actor identify the goal, obstacle, tactic, and expectation of your character!. If you can do this, you have a working knowledge characterization!. TIP: DO NOT USE AN ACCENT DURING THE AUDITION!. USE YOUR NORMAL VOICE!

Now for the audition!. Enter the audition room and state your name and the title of your monologue if you have one!. When you feel it is time for you to begin, or when the director tells you to begin, quickly get into character and do what you practiced! When auditioning it is important not to look right at the director and any other people judging you, its just a common courtesy!. Best bet is to look slightly above their head to an imaginary person that your character is talking to!. Keep your focus and speak clearly and slowly, so that every word can be understood!. Make sure your voice has a presence, you want it to fill the room!. If you mess up DO NOT STOP OR ASK TO START OVER! Just get through the whole thing as professionally as possible!. A good stage actor can cover their mistakes so that the director cannot even tell!. At the end of your monologue, pause for about two seconds of silence to give your audience time to absorb your performance, and then simply say "thank you!." And that is it!

A great way to give yourself an edge is to study the play you're going to perform, and then find a monologue that's similar in character/style!. Show your director that you CAN perform a certain part!.

Don't choose a monologue directly from the play though, unless the director asks for it of course!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Keep trying and don't take no for an answer - politely, of course!Www@QuestionHome@Com
