Question: School Musical auditions!? !?
I am 13, in 8th grade, and I'm!.!.well!.!.i guess you could say I'm overweight!. I've working hard to lose weight, but that's not the question!. I just don't want any comments like, "Oh work out more and maybe!.!.!." Okay so the real question!. My school is having musical auditions for Beauty and The Beast!. I am definitely trying out because I always do!. The director usually picks the eight graders for the leads!. I am an okay singer, but I'm a really good actress!. The director does vocal auditions first, then callbacks, second callbacks, and some people don't even get to show off their acting skills!. I'm afraid she'll(the director) judge me by my looks, and I really don't want that to happen!. So, any tips or help!?!? PLEASE!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know exactly where you're coming from, and believe me, I know it can hurt to be judged like that!.

It's an unfortunate part of life that we will all be judged on our personal appearences for theater roles - and many times by our weight!. This is called "type casting!."

It's even more unfortunate when it comes to race!. Simply put -- if your school was casting for say!.!.!.!. Cinderella!.!.!. they wouldn't cast a black girl as the lead!.

Now, that's not saying that you don't deserve the role!. You probably do! And I know that I've deserved a lot of roles throughout musical theater roles, but never got them because of my physical appearance!.

BUT the good part is that people are always needed for the smaller roles, for the chorus, for the background!. AND I have always found that people actually pay more attention to the background than the leads anyways :-p

And more importantly, what matters is that you're having fun!. Just think of it this way: you get to have all the fun of dancing around on stage, singing in the chorus, etc without all the lines to remember!. AND you don't have to worry about missing that highnote :-p

Of course, you could always prove them wrong and beat the competition!.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

When you go the audition be confident, stand straight, walk with you shoulders straight (it shows confidence) and smile, not nervously but friendly!. Make sure you know the piece your using in your audition, but my old drama teacher always told me it's better to have the script there with you if you forget a spot rather than to forget it and not have it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know exactly how you feel!. I suggest just being confident and smile and stand up straight!. Know the part!. Know it backwards, forwards, inside and out!. Study Belle and pick up on her characteristics!. Hope you get it, you sound like you deserve it!!! I'll pray that you do! God BlessWww@QuestionHome@Com

Well if you want to lose weight yeah work out umm yeah and don't look nervous if you try out because if your nervous then your be nervous when you perform and they never give big parts to nervous people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
