Who am I to tell you not to pursue your dream!? Go for it! I'd offer this advice though:

1!. Audition for everything your school/community has to offer!. Take on every role you are offered!.
2!. Find a reputable acting coach and start taking lessons now!. But do your research and make sure your coach knows what he/she is doing!. There are millions of flakes out there who don't know anything about acting!.
3!. Read every play you can get your hands on!. It never hurts to be familiar with as much as possible!.
4!. Keep your grades up in school!. (this plays into number 5)
5!. Prepare an audition for a college theatre program, and APPLY! Again, you're looking for a reputable B!.A!. or B!.F!.A program!.
6!. Repeat steps 1-4 while at college!.

Could you skip college and go straight to NYC!? Sure!. But college is a great educational tool where you will enhance your training greatly!. It also offers a safety net if you realize that acting isn't your thing!. If you graduate with a theatre acting degree from a good university, this probably means you've got the talent to keep pursuing your dream!. The hardest part about being an actor in New York isn't finding work; the hardest part is not being lazy and auditioning!. Most "actors" move to NYC and then forget how to honestly prepare and audition!. It requires a lot of self-discipline!.

In terms of money, you'll realistically probably need to keep a day job!. Bartending jobs and serving jobs are an easy way to make money without a specific technical degree!. But they also require experience in those particular fields, especially in NYC!. When you first move to NYC, you'll want enough money saved up to support you for one year's rent -- this is so you can apply for an apartment and pass the credit check!. Depending on where you live, this could mean over 12,000 dollars in savings!. So keep that in mind, as well!. Don't worry about the flight costs !.!.!. the right flight is always cheap, if you don't mind a layover!.

Keep saving money and see how you feel when you graduate high school!. Something these guidance counselors have never understood is that sometimes a person can only effectively do what their dream career is, not what the current field of the moment is!. Look what happened to all those people who got MBA degrees and went to work for big banks! Where are a lot of them now!?

Well here's my suggestion!.
Get good grades now and be SUPER involved in the theatre program in your school and/or community!.
Then apply to NYU!.

NYU has an amazing program and you will be able to live in the city and be able to audition!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

DEFINITELY go for the dream! I have the exact same dream! I want to be famous on Broadway someday!. Not even necessarily famous!. Just on Broadway!. Be in a lot of plays before then, so you'll have experience!. good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

no it's okWww@QuestionHome@Com

you sound like hilary swank! lol you have a great turn around story and you can totally make it big! I love to act too and you should follow your dreams!. (super corny but soooo true) While you wait, get a part time job and tutor, babysit and do whatever you can for money!. Make it clear to your parents this is really your dream and help them out in the house and stuff and mabye they'll help you!. Keep up good grades so you can get teacher help and get good jobs while you're waiting!.Never never be afraid of failure and take every audition you can get to get ready!. Community plays, school theatre, you don't have to do the shows, just prep for auditions!. I knew you when :) good luck hon! Www@QuestionHome@Com
