From the little bit of "research" I did, trying to find out more about you - you seem scared about a couple of things!. I realize that you did not say shy, but most people who go into the theatre are shy!. It is amazing how seeing them on stage, one would never know!. When you find a beginners class, remember, that you are not necessarily alone with you fears!. Although you will need to face them head on, as you will throughout life, there are so many other and most likely those in your class who feel the same way!. Once you get in a class and have the familiarity of your classmates, it can be a safe place you work on those fears!. Remember, that you can really never look stupid!. Or in other wards, classes and rehearsals are where you are supposed to look stupid and even fail!. That is where you learn, so you can pick yourself up and try again!. Oddly enough, not everyone can do Improv!. Once again, in this first class, you will be amazed at the skills you will learn to overcome the fears!. You can also always be honest with the teacher!. And, above all else, that passion will help you soar!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Acting is a very powerful skill!. One of the best things about it is that you transfer into a different person all together!. Leaving all your thoughts behind can be very comfortable!. You can get over your fear by doing many things, including these:

1!. Write your own play and then perform it in front of your friends!. Be the only character, and show them how well you can transform to a different character!. If you have a passion for acting, you must be good!

2!. Start practicing in front of bigger audiences (gradually)!. First, start off by yourself, and then gradually get a few more people and so on!.

3!. If you want to audition at a local theater, go with a few friends that are interested in acting as well!. They can give you support and helpful feedback!.

Hope I helped, good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Part of the notion and design of any decent lessons program involves getting beyond fear!.

As a passion (which is what acting should be) you might have fear issues but you need to address why!. Looking stupid, no offense ( I wouldn't have used that word ) especially for a novice, is probably a typical fear of failure and rejection, but to not make the effort is as damaging to self esteem as being laughed off of a stage!.

The beauty of improv is that it isn't so scripted, but takes wit and perhaps rapid reaction and response time!. Group improv!. which might be somewhat better for you, is an interaction with others in the same situation you've been thrust into!. Monologue (improve) is just a stand up comic, with some idea of how the portrayal will progress but including spontaneity into their 5 minutes on stage!. In that situation, many also play off the audience, even in any insults given or received!.
Doing stand up for anyone good at it, actually feeds off of hecklers!.
