Question: In Beauty and the Beast the musical, can Chip be a girl!?
In Beauty and the Beast, is it okay if Chip's played by a girl!? I really think I'd be good for the part, but I don't wanna try out if they'll only refuse me!. I'll play it as a boy if that's necessary, but I don't think it is!. Experiences!? Drama teachers!? Alan Menken!? DISNEY!?!?!?!?

Thanks!.

Chip can absolutely be played by a girl! They never refer to Chip as male or female (as Chip is a teacup, after all) =P
Sometimes it is better for a girl to play this role, since Chip's voice should sound higher and younger!. Go for it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, it can!. Although it really depends on the director you're auditioning for and what they have as a vision!. I auditioned for the part with the theater company in my town with mostly boys when I was eight and I got the part!. It also depends on what kind of play you're auditioning for!. If it's a high school play, you definitely could get the part but if it's with a theater company or community theater, they might be looking for someone younger to play the part!. Find out if the director has made any specifications on the role!. If they haven't, then sure, try it! :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The theatre has a long history of thespians crossing gender barriers, and the roles of young males are frequently given to girls and women when a boy of the appropriate age can not be found!. For instance, in almost every instance the role of Peter Pan is played by a girl!. So while they would almost certainly keep the role male, I would go for it!. Any director worth his or her weight would not refuse someone solely on their gender!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You'd want to play it as a boy, but since he's a child, that wouldn't mean any more than wearing your hair back and keeping the pronouns masculine!. Go for it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, Chip is a boy, but there's nothing inherently masculine about the character!. Other than the name!.

Don't know why not!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
