Question: Why does Hamlet delay acting against Claudius!? !?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
1!. He is unsure if the ghost is actually his father, or a demon trying to trick him!.

2!. Claudius is a king!. You better have some pretty damn good evidence to murder a king!.

When Claudius demands for "Lights! Lights!" during the play, Hamlet is sure of his guilt and plans to murder him!.

He finds him praying and almost goes through with the murder, deciding against it at the last moment because he doesn't want him to be sent to Heaven, while his father (who did not get to absolve his sins before his death) lies in Hell!.

After the sword fight with Laertes, when Gertrude drinks the poisoned wine, and Hamlet learns that "the King's to blame", he exacts his revenge!. Everyone of importance is in the room to see the fight, and has heard proof of Claudius' guilt, so Hamlet can kill without damaging the reputation of the Danish throne (as much)!. When!? He does it for a variety of reasons!.!.!. I remember at one point it was because Claudius was praying, and he (hamlet) was concerned that if he killed Claudius at that point, Claudius would go to heaven, which hamlet didn't want!. Other times, he delays acting because he isn't sure whether or not Claudius is guilty!. I think in the final analysis, hamlet's weakness is that he is a wishy-washy coward, constantly looking for excuses for not doing what he is supposed to do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He's scared!. He's not sure if the ghost of his father was real or not!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
