Question: I need help memorizing a monologue!?
Hey!

For those of you who are theater actors, do you have any tips on memorizing monologues quickly!? Like, do you use a certain technique!? Is there any way to help memorize them quickly!? Any tips!? :D

Thanks in advance! <3Www@QuestionHome@Com

If the monologue is rather long, take it one paragraph at a time!. Start with the first paragraph, and instead of just reading it, stand up and actually speak it!. Say it over and over again, force any younger siblings you have to watch, and eventually you'll have that first paragraph out in no time!. After that, say the first paragraph without reading it, and then look down at your paper and read the second!. Keep doing this to the whole thing!. When you think you have it down, have someone there to read along as you speak, so that when you forget a part they can quickly jump in and remind you of the next line or two!. Eventually you'll get it!.

And another tip!.!.!. there were always a few lines that I would have trouble with, no matter how many times I memorized them!. What I did was take that sentence and say it over an over!. Then, when someone would ask me a question or start talking to me, I would immediately interrupt them to say my line!. Even if it made no sense in the conversation!. People may roll their eyes at you, but you'll get the difficult to remember parts down easy that way!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Did you notice that all the answers up to now say the same thing (albeit in different ways), but not one of them addresses the issue of memorizing quickly!? There's a reason for this: They all know the best way to memorize something well, and get it right!. But the speed with which one learns is entirely individual!. Some people learn faster than others!. also, the word "quickly" is highly subjective!. What one person thinks is lightning fast, another will think is agonizingly slow!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not professional or anything but some things I have tried in the past are recording myself speaking the monologue and then listening to it or breaking the monologue into smaller pieces and then memorizing it, like i'll work on one line at a time and keep adding on til i get there - it doesn't work to try and memorize the entire thing in one go! - good luck! Well, take it a little at a time!. I dont know how long it is, but I had one that lasted 10 minutes, and I just took it a little at a time!. What I do, for anything I need memorized, is read it over and over and over!. Then say it out loud while a friend or family member listens to it, and has the monolouge in hand!. Give them a sheet of paper, and have them write down the parts you need to work on, or have messed up on!. Then go over those parts!. It works for me!

Best of luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just do peices of it at a time!. A few sentences, and once you have those down, move to the next few!. Once you have it memorized in sections, work on memorizing the order they go in so you don't get to the end of a section and forget which comes next!.
Good Luck!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't act, but my memorizing technique is memorizing one sentence at a time!. Say I memorize sentence 1, 2, and 3!. Then I go back and try to do them all!. If I mess up, I have to start over!. You get a lot of practice that way!Www@QuestionHome@Com

read it over and over and over again!. drink sleep and talk your monologue!. become the person in your monologue!. thats how i memorize lines and its always worked for me
