Question: Audition speeches help!?
Me and my friend are both audtioning to get into a youth theatre and we have to do a 2 minute monoluge!.
He says that for his he will do Shakespeare because it is so well known, but I Say that because it is so well known everyone will do it and I am gonna do a monolgue from this really crazy play called the skriker that doesn't make sense, but the casting director would remember me from having done it (if that makes sense)
So who is right!? Is it better to stay safe and stick with what you know, or just go for it!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

first off, you're both right!. i think for the most part, most traditional auditioners simply prefer that you pick a monologue from a play!. there are so many actors out there who want to pull a monologue from a song or movie, so both of you are headed in the right direction!. secondly, it doesn't really matter where you pull your monologue from unless the audition/director is specifically requesting differently!.!.!.!.i!.e!. classicaly (shakespeare, moliere, comedia) or contemporary!. you want to pick a piece that will show you to the best of your ability!. if you want the role of the ingenue, pick an ingenue's monologue!. if you want the part of the villain, choose a villainesque monologue!.!.!.see!? shakespeare is more well known but it's a lot harder to pull off, especially if you're doing a contemporary show!.!.!.what's the point!? i've seen people who can perform shakespeare well but are awful at contemporary shows!. but the same could be said about your piece!. is it so "crazy" that people aren't going to understand it!? just make sure your piece has a beg, middle, and an end!. that it has a conflict!. that it shows off what you're best at!. all the rest will fall into place!. I would go for the more modern piece everytime!. The more you stand out, the more memorable you are, the better your chance!. No matter how good your friend might be, if he does the same piece as 27 other people, his chances lessen!. Good luck ! (:Www@QuestionHome@Com
