I'm 15, and my entire family is in the movie/ television business!. My father is an art director, and my mother is an actress!. So me and my older sister have been doing TV, radio, and theater since we could lift our heads up, and have had agents since we were born!. IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS BUSINESS YOU NEED AN AGENT!.Because of my family history, i never had to "find" an agent, but i have seen them turn people away for countless stupid reasons, and you need to be prepared for the harshest business in America!. First off, you need experience!. I'm not saying school play, I'm saying on camera classes, theater workshops, voice over specialists!. ANYTHING to put on a resume that shows these people you are 100% serious!. Do NOT go in wearing too much make-up, they WILL be very blunt with you and tell you!. You must make yourself extremely open, welcoming and upbeat!. Someone they would be proud to send out to their clients for auditions!. Just smile!.

To work professionally as an actor is *very* difficult!. There are far more actors (or people who think that they're actors) than there are roles available!. This is especially true in Hollywood, where in my opinion there have been just a few too many cliches of some director going, "Zat girl, I must haff her for my next picture!"

Quite a few people come to Los Angeles or New York with dreams of an acting career, without really understanding the business or what it takes!. Even if you are prepared professionally, as I said, there are far more actors than paying roles!.

The situation is beginning to improve, however!. With the Internet, and the cost of video production dramatically dropping, there are a lot more opportunities beginning to open up for actors!. The rise in independent film and video means that it's no longer absolutely necessary to live in L!.A!. or N!.Y!. to work as an actor!. also, the change in the public market, wanting to see more "real" characters as opposed to the idealized "Hollywood star" types means a wider variety of possible roles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
