Question: Should I just go to college for journalism, and just get acting training elsewhere!?
I'm a freshman in high school, and I am 14!. I love to act and write!. I am more of a tv/film actor or on screen actor!. As I noticed when I have looked at college's is that most college's only go into theater, not film acting!. The only school that has a program is NYU, but their film acting is when your a junior!. I use to love theater when I was younger, but it is just not my passion any longer!. I have been acting since 6, and use to be in a lot of plays!. I went into film acting about 3-4 years ago and it was hard since I am very theatrical!. Though, once I switched over I never wanted to go back!. I know to be an actor, you need to do both theater and on screen acting!. My passion is more on the other side of acting!. I also have two agents here in Atlanta and Nashville!. I am in theater in high school though, and I am not loving it!. I do have a high A, but I don't find it intriguing learning about puppets, set design, voice, pantomime, and etc!. I may like theater again later on life, but not as of this moment!. When I look at schools, I can't find a college that is right for me!. The college's which I would apply to are: NYU, USC, Pepperdine University, Flagler College (St!. Augustine, Florida), UGA, and Northwestern University!. All of which, have good journalism schools!. As of now, I may just go to school for journalism and get acting training else where!. I can only see NYU, as the school where I would double major!. I would have to apply as a drama major, and then if I get in, I would double major!. I couldn't do it the other way around!. Journalism is more of a back up plan, but is also a passion!. I would love to work for Variety, and write about tv shows or maybe later be a CEO of my own company!. I would also be a good dramatic or creative writer also!. I would also love to work for things like The NY Times, and Upfront Magazine!. I also make good grades, and I am in all honors and an AP!. I really don't just want to go to a acting converstory, because I need a degree at a good university!. As of now, NYU is my 1st choice!. I just don't like the fact that NYC is more theater and broadway!. I can't sing, or dance!. I really can't find a college that has what I want!. I know no college will have everything, but I want it to be close!. Should I just go to college for journalism, or double major!? I always thought I was going to double major, until I found out that college's don't have on screen acting!. Do you suggest any college!? I really don't know what to do!? I was even looking at a program USC has called the residence honors program, where you skip your senior year!. Is this a good program for me!? RELAX and take a deep breath!. You have a long, long way to go before any decisions need to be made about your future!. You also have a lot to learn about writing as evidenced by your question!. Paragraphs can be your friend!. Go introduce yourself!.

To specifically answer your original question!. Yes, you should go to college and get your degree in journalism!. When you leave school you can plan to move to Los Angeles and tackle a career in TV and Film!. You will need your back up plan and a plan in general for a long, long while!. You'll need to save money to survive while you find a day job!. You will need your day/survivial job while you pursue a career as an actor!. 98% of the professional actors in the Screen Actors Guild make less than $5000 per calender year as actors!. The business is brutal and going to USC, NYU or any university for that matter is not a guarantee of success as an actor!. There's just no predicting what will happen!.

Anyway, as I stated earlier!. Relax!. You're a freshman in high school with a long 4 years ahead of you to keep your grades up, your SAT scores strong and to develop yourself into the kind of well rounded person a top university would seek to have in the first place!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

frank is right, relax!. I believe if you have a backup that is what you will do back up!. you will never become an actor!. I also believe that colleges are generally not good for acting training!. Actors are born and not made and do not need training, they just need expereince!. If you really want to be an actor and are good at it as demondstrated by your resume, then try that!. College will always be there, your youth which is an asset to your acting, will not!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
