Question: What is the key to finding an age appropriate Shakespeare monologue to audition with!?
I am looking for a 2 minute monologue from Shakespeare currently for drama school and I am stuck!. While I do not want suggestions, I would like some tips on how to find an appropriate monologue!. I already have copies of the plays and am working on reading them all but my major issue is figuring out what ages the characters are(aside from the ones that are historical or very well known)!. Any advice on how to choose this monologue would be most appreciated!. The language, my lords and ladies, is but a mere trifle of a thing for my part!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not sure how much you're going to be judged on "age appropriateness"!.!.!. you see, you need to find something that speaks to you, and you would feel comfortable with!. You could conceivably do the Polonius monologue "To thine own self be true" as a teenager talking to his friend!.
Of course, the characters of Romeo and Juliet were written to be teens, so that's an obvious and therefore over-used source!.
Hamlet was (relatively) a boy, so "The Play's the thing" could work!.!.!. find something you are comfortable with !.!.!. THAT is the trick!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You could always choose a character such as Puck, who has always struck me as being on the youthful side !.!. but a better demonstration of your range might be to tackle a role that's beyond your chronological age -- say, Shylock from "the Merchant of Venice!." Makeup can add years to a character, but at a certain point, subtracting years is far more difficult to do convincingly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
