Question: Im super confused about Sweeney Todd, help!?

Okay at the end, Todd kills that crazy lady whos like a bum or whatever, then when he goes downstairs he gets mad at Lovett and kills her for it, but I dont get it, and then he bends down and holds the crazy lady!.!.!.!??!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

She's his wife, Lucy (The Beggar Woman)!. In the musical, they have a few more encounters, where she sings "Don't I know you, mister!?"!. Mrs!. Lovett knew all along that his wife was still alive, yet elected not to tell Todd because she was in love with him and wanted him to herself!. That's why he kills Lovett, because he's realized the horrible thing he's done!. If you notice, at the beginning, Lovett tells Todd that his wife poisoned herself - but she never says that she died from it!.

In trying to kill the Judge to get his vengeance, he ends up killing the one woman he was getting vengeance for all along!. This what makes this story so piteous (and why Sondheim is a genius), because after all of that, you end up feeling bad for a man who has done so much wrong in the name of something good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Lovette told him his wife killed her self (because she was in love with Sweeney) and Sweeney didn't know his wife was really alive and he killed her because he was shocked when the crazy lady said "don't i know you Mr!.!?" or some thing like that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That bum lady is his wife! Ms!. Lovett told him that she killed herself and then he killed her (his wife) on accident because he didnt know it was her!. He holds her because he loves her and then the boy kills him because he (Sweeney Todd) killed Ms Lovett!. I hope this clears it up!Www@QuestionHome@Com
