Teiresias: “I began the rites of burnt offering at the alter,
But Hephaestus failed me: instead of bright flame,
There was only the sputtering slime of the fat thigh-flesh
Melting the entrails dissolved in grey smoke;
The bare bone burst from the welter!. And no blaze!”

In more modern terms, he's talking about giving an offering to Hephaestus but instead of receiving his blessing, he gets burnt!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We did this play in my Highschool!. Our director constintally had us tell him what we thought our characters were thinking and all that!. But the whole this is about Antigone wanting to bury her brother, because it was fair to him!. It was her being a rebel against the kings rules!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
