Right!. It's a question that answers itself, really!. What they mean is, "Which ingredients of a tragedy are in Doctor Faustus and which ingredients of a medieval morality play are in it Doctor Faustus!?!." So, go and look up tragedy and its key points and then they key points of morality plays and try to find examples of all of them in Doctor Faustus!. I'll get you started: It is akin to a Shakespearean tragedy in that it follows the unravelling destruction of a central character (such as Macbeth or King Lear), and its central character is almost a hyper-real person, so much so that it is the concept of Faustus, rather than a human being, that concerns the audience!. The playwright stimulates us to think about whether such tragic people and circumstances could occur, rather than inviting us to relate to or empathise with them as fellow men/women (although we naturally do on some level)!. This is where the line between Renaissance tragedy and Morality plays gets blurred; in Morality plays, characters are personifications of virtues, vices, angels, demons and man, and are put through various moral dilemmas!. You can see how the characters in Marlowe's play have this quality of being personifications of abstracts, rather than three-dimensional human beings!. Hope that helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it's a morality play because it makes a point, it's a tragedy because something bad happens in it, i!.e!. bad things occur if you make a pact with the devil and sell your soul!.!.!.or, be careful what you ask for because you just might get it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
