Question: What is the current ethos within the acting community regarding "stardom"!?
"Love the art in yourself; not yourself in art!." (Stanislavski)

Indeed, those who believe in acting as a means to an end (fame, self-glorification, money, stardom etc!.) do not deserve to step foot on any stage!.

I had believed this to be a commonly shared belief within the acting community; however, the majority of agencies and professionals seem to encourage what can only be detailed as a "movie-star syndrome"!.

Acting is a business like anything else, and it requires professionalism, passion and dedication to the art itself!.

Am I being overly skeptical or is this truly how the industry has come to function!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are indeed skeptical but many of us in the industry are cynical!. The fact is money is what makes the business go round and everything else, including "stardom" is fluff used to distract!. While the unions have minimum wages, the actors who can survive on that alone, who are able to string together enough jobs to earn a living solely as an actor are few and far between!. The big pay days go to the stars, the middle class actors is virtually non existent and it is those commissions from those big salaries that keep the agencies and all the other ancillary professionals in business!.
