I've always wanted to be an actor and my dad, wants to me to be a professional, u know a doctor ( he is) or something stable; he thinks that i can suffer if i get in to this!.!.!.being an actor and preform have being my dream since i have memories and i do have the talent, im in high school by the way; and i want to go to usa to make my dream come true!.!.!.!.so tell me what u think about this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It's natural to want to follow your dream but your dad is also correct!. Show business is anything but stable and you should probably do as much research as you can on being a professional actor before you jump into the mix!. That you are not from the United States means that an already difficult business will be 10 times harder than it is for any American!. I keep repeating this in my answers but here it goes again!. The actors you see in TV or Film in the U!.S!. all belong to the Screen Actors Guild!. The average SAG actor makes less than $5,000 U!.S!. per calender year which means if they relied just on their earnings as actors they would be well below the poverty level in the U!.S!. So, if you are going to pursue being an actor you will first need to move to the U!.S!.!. You will then have to get your work visa which will be very difficult!. From there you'll have to tackle working your way from the ground up!. If you have an accent while speaking English, you will have to lose it!. Sure Selma Hayek and Penelope Cruz have careers but they are the exception, not the rule!. Penelope was also an established starsin her home country before ever coming to the U!.S!. Visit Amazon and research books on how to be a working actor and other aspects of the entertainment industry!. Talent alone is not enough!.Www@QuestionHome@Com well, i agree that if you want to be an actor in the US, you first need to have a working/immigrant visa if you want to stay there for as long as you want!. i wanted to be an actress since i was a child as well and my parents wants me to be a nurse!. ges wat!? i am now a registered nurse in my country and i am now completing foreign exams to be registered in the US so i can work there!. and as soon as my contract in the hospital ends, then i will pursue acting in hollywood!. so my point is: if you really want something, it will be worth it to do what it takes to have it!.!. goodluck!.
