Could be one play or it could be many, many years of plays!. There is no one answer!. Agents earn money, 10% of an actors earnings, only if he or she works!. So any agent has to take many things into account when considering new talent because it's not ONLY about the talent!. It's about the work ethic, business sense and business understanding!. The agent will not be able to do everything alone!. Agents look for self starters and an actor who has proven they can get hired for jobs, even low paying acting jobs gives them an idea of what they can do for you with their efforts behind you!.

There are many, many steps you can take on your own as a minor with your parents help or as an adult to get work as an actor before you'll ever need an agent!. also hit up Amazon and research books on how to be a working actor and the business of being a working actor!.

Well, it doesn't actually work that way, first you have to make yourself look good, like doing acting classes, and then local theatres, so it looks good on a resume!. And then after a few years of that, take some head shots, and then they will decide if they like you or not!.
