Question: I need help with my EMOTIONS!!!?

Right, so in my drama class at the moment we are learning about how to control our emotions and last week we did crying!. Now being a male attending a school in west cork means you try never to show emotion! So i had a lot of difficulty with this one!. Our drama teacher to go back to a turbulent emotional time, but being only 16 i haven't had any experience like this that i haven't got over! Laughing was probably just a hard because i only find something funny once! So any websites or techniques you guys could suggest would be absolutely amazing!
Thanks a Mill!!!

I'd suggest that you go to your drama teacher (either after class or a schedule a session) and let her/him know that you are having difficulty with this exercises!. Be honest about it!.

If you never had any turbulent experiences, or have really 'cried!.' - then the sense memory technique probably won't be effective for you!. Believe me, there are things that we feel we "got over" - but when we trigger sense memory - we can re-live that experience as if it happened yesterday!.

Have you thought about when was the last time you saw a movie, and the movie really moved you!? I know a lot of people cried when watching Titanic (for the 4th time), or The Notebook!. How about a moment that you saw from a TV show!?

How about a song, from a sound track or any of your favorite musical artist - a ballad that really moved you!? a song that you can relate!?

Instead of re-living your past experience, you can 'live' other character's experience from Films or within the content of a song!.

You just have to do some search, and find what "clicks" with your emotion!.

Here's an excercise you can try:

Pick a quiet evening, turn off your lights, make sure there are no noise around, sit on your bed, make yourself comfortable, and close your eyes!.

Relax your body!. Relax your shoulders!. Take about 5 deep breath in and slowly out!. Have your mind focusing on the sound of your breathing!. The sound when you inhale, and the sound when you exhale!.

Then breath nartually!.

(Option 1) If you decided to use a song for this excercise - put on your headphone and play the music!. Do you understand the lyrics!? What is the song about!? What's happening in the song!? - and mostly, what this song reminds you of!? How this song relates to people that you know!?

(Option 2) If you decided to use a past experience or a scene from a film!.!.!. picture yourself watching the scene in your mind!.!.!. From the beginning!. Take yourself back to the beginning of the day!. Before any of the event take place!. See how much you remember!. Then continue the scene in your mind!.!.!.!. until you reach the 'turbulent' point!. What kind of emotional are the characters are going through!? Why would they have that type of emotional!? What made them cry!? Imagine if this happends to you or someone you deeply care about!.!.!.how would you react!? (it's like putting yourself in their shoes)

Remember to take your time!. Take it slow!. And stop when you want to stop!.

Being an actor, you will have to learn to open your instruments and accept all emotions that come-and-go out of your body!.
