Question: I want to be an actor and looking for stage name ideas!.!.!?
Hi, I am a teenage boy and I wish to enter the acting career in near future!. My name is Afiq Feisal and I am afraid that the uncommon name may lower my audition callbacks!. I need a stage name and I came up with one which is Fig Delcaro, but I was wondering if you guys have any other ideas!? It would help if its close to my real name!. Your help would be much appreciated!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whatever name you choose for yourself, you are constrained by whether anybody else already has that name!. The actors' union, Equity, will not allow two people to have identical stage names, for obvious reasons, that they could be confused with one another!. Whoever performs professionally with the name, first gets to keep it, and nobody else can use it!.

That is why when Harry H Corbett, the actor who is best known for his part in Steptoe and Son, wanted to call himself Harry Corbett, Equity said no, we already have a Harry Corbett (the puppeteer best-known for his puppets Sooty and Sweep), you will have to give yourself a middle initial to distinguish yourself from him!.

It means that if someone else is already performing under the name Afiq Feisal, you can't use it, even though it is your real name!. Crazy as that sounds!.

From what you say, you want a more well-known forename and surname, to minimise the problem of people misspelling it, through lack of familiarity or not being able to find you in a directory!.

Can I suggest Tariq is a fairly well-known male Asian forename (not least because of the political writer Tariq Ali)!.

As for a surname, you could do worse than search the pages of a telephone directory for a town with a large Asian population (Leicester or Bradford perhaps, if you are in England) (available in a public library) and see what names catch your eye!. Or read the cast list of a Bollywood film!?

Your name has nothing to do with whether or not you'll be called back!. The uniqueness of it means A) that people will remember it and B) that you'll have the chance to show off your own personality a bit while explaining how it's pronounced!. I wouldn't change it at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I usually tell people that stage names are generally no longer used unless there is already someone in the profession that has the same name as you, but you make a good point!. You might want a more Anglo sounding name such as Alfie Fesal!. Although Omar Sharif had no problem with getting cast!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

um u think that Fig is less of a strange name than Afiq!? its obviously a stage name and its kinda lame!. Afiq is an amazing and wackadoodle name btw!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
