Remember this practical piece of advice: Never come into the theatre with mud on your feet!. Leave your dust and dirt outside!. Check your little worries, squabbles, petty difficulties with your outside clothing --all the things that ruin your life and draw your attention away from your art -- at the door!.
~ Konstantin Stanislavisky

Basically when you walk into the theatre!. Stop being yourself!. Stop thinking as yourself!. You are no longer yourself, and its not your job to be yourself!. Think as the character, act as them, be them, don't let a worry cross your mind if its not their worry!. My director always asks us questions and we respond as characters, and talk like them and move like them and walk like them, eat, look, read, sleep, breath, like the character!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Props to Shevy for pulling out the Stanislavski - it's dry as a bone, but his technique can't be beat!. You should definitely read him if you want to improve your acting!.

It helps if you think of your character as a person whose life you're living rather than a set of lines to be said and blocking to be performed!. Ask yourself, what is my character's overall goal in the play!? What is their goal in each scene!? What tactics to they use to get that goal!? In a play, everything's about completing a goal - every movement, every sentence spoken, every inflection of the voice is part of your character trying to get what they want!. When you know how your character looks and thinks and moves, and you know what they want and are fighting to get it, it's easy to stay in the moment and let emotions and whatnot come naturally!.
