Question: How do I play this part perfectly!?
In my area, in the late spring there's an award show for plays and musicals from the area!. I'd love to be nominated for one!.
I'm playing Caroline Bingley in my schools performance of Pride and Prejudice!. Does anyone have any tips on how to Play her character and do it well enough to get a cappie!? Maybe the one for best supporting actress in a play!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Well Caroline is a real snob, she is cultured, yet shallow and judgemental!. I think that the Bingleys are new money whereas the Darcys are old money, so Caroline would do anything to make people think that she really was old money (or better yet marry into old money)!. I hope you get the award!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Honey, if the character isn't coming from inside you, then she's going to ring false!.
Here's what you do:
Sit down, and read the play several times through!. Decide what your character's overall goal is!. Then, look at each scene your character is in, decide what her goal for that scene is, and what tactics she uses to get it!. (Hint: the goal is usually something involving another person!. For example, I want Katie to play outside with me (goal), so I ask her politely (request = tactic), offer to let her play with my frisbee (bribery = tactic) and say I'll tell her mom she broke my teacup if she doesn't (blackmail = tactic)!.) Looking at how your character deals with problems helps you figure out what kind of person they are, and helps you connect to them!.
Then, really take some time to think about your character!. How does she talk!? Is she loud or quiet!? Does she have any kind of accent, or speech impediment!? How does she move!? Does she stand really straight, or walk with a limp!? Does she talk with her hands!? To what degree!?
Don't make your goal to get an award, make your goal to become that character and react truthfully and honestly!. Take each line, understand what it means, and use it to try to help you reach your goal in that scene and your overall goal for the play!. Understand that, to her, she's the center of the story!. See things from her point of view!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
