Question: Tips for a new director!?
I'm looking for answers from people who have had experience directing!.

I'm about two weeks into the rehearsal process for a play I've written and am directing!. It's my first, so everything is pretty new to me!. I've been in plenty of shows in the past, so I know what it's like to be an actor, but does anyone out there have tips from the director's perspective!? This is a college production by the way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It always amazes me how many people who think they 'direct' pay so little attention to the shape of a show: its rhythms, pacing, so on!. You are shaping this work, to reveal the universe that the author has created to the audience!. It's not just a matter of telling who to move where, which is what most 'directors' do!. And 90% of them merely follow what's indicated in the script!. Creating the world of the play involves lots of research and consideration of the period, the arc of the play and individual characters !. !. !. it goes on and on!. Wish you all the best!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Emulate the directors whom you enjoyed working with, avoid the actions of those you thought were complete morons!. Never embarrass or call your actors out in front of others!. Listen to your cast and crew but be decisive in your leadership!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
