Even if they do intend to legitimately represent you, a situation like this is some shady business dealings and shows that they aren't going to look out for your best interests!. Remember, an agent's job isn't only to find you auditions; they also negotiate your pay and take care of any problems that may arise for you on set, and if they're willing to throw you to the wolves so that they can make a buck from a photographer then they're not someone you want to get involved with!. It's normal for a legit agency to ask new clients to take new headshots if their current one isn't to their liking, and they might even suggest a photographer whom they know does good work, but they wouldn't actually require that you get them from a specific photographer!. In fact, you should have had a Portfolio before going to the acting agency!. It is not a sign that they are not legit, but one that you are just starting out and need to learn more about the business you are embarking upon!. As an author (you can google Christopher Pascale to see that I'm for real) I need to continue to build my resume publishing articles, stories, and poems while I sell my novel so that I can show I am professional in demand!. They also would not tell you , that you need to use their photographer!. If an agency tells me I need new photos great, I will go get some usually I do not use anyone they recommend!. I usually go by a referral from a trusted Friend!. If your counter parts are saying this photographer is crap then he probably is!.
