Do you mean 'sitcom" !? It is short for "situation-comedy"!. Lots of fun comedy tv shows are called sitcoms, like 'Cheers' or "Scrubs"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The wikipedia article on situation comedy is fairly comprehensive!. The United Kingdom and Canada traditionally place a lot more value on "sketch comedy" than the United States!.
-----------
Not to say that sketch comedy is totally absent from the United States!. Saturday Night Live, Chappelle's Show and In Living Color have all been popular, but situation comedies seem to attract repeat viewership more reliably as people develop an affectionate relationship with the characters!.
-----------
Standup is being boosted by the number of people that are watching shows on devices like IPODS!. The talking head is more suitable to the small screens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it's "sitcom" -- short for situation comedy!.
Like here's the "situation" : a Guy lives with two girls, one is really Racked and Stacked and one is really Mousy!. All kinds of funny things ensure!. Mousy falls for Guy, Guy falls for Racked!. Ho ho!.

Then Guy falls for Mousy, but Mousy is Mad!. And Racked falls for Guy, but he's fixed on Mousy!. then Racked and Mousy swear off men and take up bowling!. Ho ho ho!.

Then Ben the nerdy neighbor shows up, falls for Racked, same old same old!.

Or here's another one: ditzy redhead madly in love with Cuban heart-throb nightclub singer!. Loyal-best-friend-neighbor-lady and ditz get into all kinds of problems, nerd husbands sort things out!.

and just when you think things can't get worse, Ben the nerdy neighbor shows up!
