Question: Auditioning - Must the monologue be from a production!?
Auditions for the musical are this week!. We are told to prepare a 1 minute monologue as well as 16 bars of music!. Does the monologue have to be from a production!? I just have to pick the right one, but don't exactly know the criteria!.
Thanks in advance!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would say choose one from a play, just because it sounds like you put more work into it if the director asks what it is from!. Then you can tell him/her what play it is from, and the playwright, as opposed to saying "Oh I got it from the internet!." There are so many good plays out there to choose from, plus there are lots of collections of monologues that you can get from your local library!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

ive done loads of auditions!. the monologue can be from anywhere!. get it from a movie scene, your favourite tv show or even a book!.

Sometimes you can find websites that have a lot of ones you can pick from!

p!.s!. good luck with the audition!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Unless you are a really GOOD writer it is probably wise to choose a monologue from a produced show!.

If you have questions ask your drama teacher or the director!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, A mono can be from anything!. Or Anywhere!.
They usually give you a genre!. Like Comedic or Dramatic!.
You should have Monos [and songs] of all different genres in your audition book!.
