Question: Audition song for a 13 year old!!!?
my little sister's auditioning for a production of A Christmas Carol!. In the youth ensemble, about 140 people audition and there are 14 roles!. 13 is the oldest age a person can audition at so it's her last year!. She's planning on doing a shakespeare monologue, but she cant think of a song!. She's got a soprano voice, and can't sing a note any lower than the A below middle C!. And lets face it, she's not the best singer!. Some of her thoughts are Tomorrow from Annie, Think of Me from the Phantom of the Opera, and I Have a Dream from Mamma mia!. Any other ideas!?!? She could sing "Castle On a Cloud" from "Les Miserables" as it is written for a young girl's voice!. It is sang by Cosette, the young star of the musical!. I had several voice students sing this for auditions because the range and content are for girls rather than women!. Do not sing "Think of Me" as it is for a Lyric Soprano who has a very mature voice!. It does not make sense for a 13 yr!. old!. The "Castle on a Cloud" is very conducive to acting out!. I would suggest renting a copy of the musical to watch the scene in which she performs this song!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with Castle on a Cloud except that it was meant for a very young girl to sing (may not matter for this audition) and definitely stay away from all of your sister's suggestions, sorry! Annie is long played out, Phantom is inappropriate, and I just can't stand Mamma Mia :-)

She wants to suggest a certain character and time period to go along with Christmas Carol!. Castle on a Cloud works!. So will The Girl I Mean To Be from The Secret Garden and Where is Love from Oliver!. If she doesn't sing all that well, look at Getting to Know You from King & I!. It's fairly mid-range and very easy!.

Best of luck to your sister and how sweet of you to help her,
