Question: I need help doing a russian accent!. !?
this is my first year of theatre, and today, i tried out for fiddler on the roof!. The teacher first had me read the script in my regular voice, and i think i did pretty good at that!. but then she told me to speak it in a russian accent (or at least try)!. I failed miserably!. i sounded more like a dieing walrus, and to make matters worse, i bailed out halfway through the script!. So im gonna ask her if i can try out tomorrow, but i still need to figure out the russian accent!. I want to try out for Hodel!. so if anyone could give me tips on how to do a russian accent, that would be great!. thanksWww@QuestionHome@Com

well first off the word "russian" should sound a little bit like "rashin"!. the u's should be accentuated heavily in most words ex!. the word "ruski" should sound like "rooski" and the r's should be rolled like in spanish!. the o's should have a little bit of an "oh" so "comrade" should be "chomrade" but make sure you dont say the ch sound like in "check" or something like that!. good luck thats all ive got!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Gorky Park has good Russian accents to listen to, as does Eastern Promises (though I'm not sure you're old enough to watch that one;) Red October has some fair Russian accents, as long as you don't listen to Sean Connery!. There's a great book on accents called the Actor's Encyclopedia of Accents and Dialects by Molin that you might try to find at the library!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Emphasize your "R's" and "V's"!. Watch some Russian movies, or maybe American movies with actors imitating a Russian accent!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
