Do you mean Music Theater at High School vs in college!?!? Generally, the commitment is MUCH greater!. However dedicated and hardworking you think you are, double it!. Step up your professionalism - everyone still has a good time, and there are cast parties, but it's not a social club like high school!.!.!.!.people are there to make connections, find future jobs and make money!. also, understand that there are dozens of people dying for your part!. If you really really mess it up, or don't show for a call, or don't take your part seriously, someone else will!. (The directors I worked for in college had absolutly no problem firing a lead and subbing in the understudy!.) Finally, no matter how good you were in high school, you are a freshman (low man on the totem pole) and competing against many many more people!. If you get a lousey part, or an understudy - LOVE it!. Show up, do your best, and be helpful!. It's gonna take time for people to notice you and give you the really good parts!.

I'm not trying to be mean, but I've seen people (some good friends) try this career and leave in tears!. It's rough, and no one wants to hear that they just aren't as good as they think they are!. (you're in college to learn remember!? :p )

It depends on how competive you want to get!.!.!.Julliard is good, but you're gonna possibly kill yourself to get in :p Same with any other conservatory!. Some state colleges have really good musical theater programs!.!.!.I was recenly impressed with the University of Central Florida's!.!.!.!.You're best bet is to find a search engine like embark!.com and start researching your options!. (or just google "musical theater" + colleges)




PS!. ALWAYS be nice to the techies!. No matter what!. They can seriously mess up your show (they are controlling the lights, your microphone, costume ect) :p Besides, most of them are usually good friends with the directior, production mgr, tech director ect!. they are the same thing, compare by looking at the curriculum!. You are going to have to work hard to find the right school!. so do it!. It will cost a fortune to go to the best schools, of course!. You could go to private professional school!. but they are not much better, very very costly!. and not much hope of having a career in this very small industry!.
