ok!.!.!.well now that everyone already sent you links!.!.!.i'm just gonna tell you about working on the musical!.

I'm currently working on Sweeney Todd for Civic Theatre!. I play the lead role of Mrs!. Lovett who sings "The Worst Pies in London!."

This!.!.!.haha is not an easy musical by any means!. I don't want to scare you, but if this is your first musical!.!.!.your in for a ride!.

Its by Stephen Sondheim and he is a musical genius!. His chord structures and harmonies are hard to lock in and everything is constantly changing from cut time to real time!. The dialogue isn't anything easier neither, but mostly the play is sung through!. its seriously non stop singing, so to make it real you need to be able to sing with an british accent!. and everything from choreography is done in time with the music so you have to be able to keep a steady beat and be flexable with sudden changes!.

Mrs!. Lovett basically sings non stop!. Her major songs are Worst Pies in London, A little Priest, poor thing, small part in epiphany, not while i'm around, god thats goood!, small part in pirelli's miracle elixir, by the sea, final sequence, so on!.

johanna is the next big female role!. she is the estraged daughter of sweeney todd!. Her songs: green finch!.!.!., ah miss, kiss me, kiss me reprise!.!.

beggar woman!.!.!.she is sweeeney todds wife but your not supposed to know that!.!.!.she is in and out of songs!.!.!.she is the creepy factor to the play!.!.and she is a VERY HIGH energy role!.

that is it for main female leads!. if it is your first musical, i would not suggest going out for the leads as the music is deadly lol and might interfere with your overall performance!.

its a HARD musical!. the whole broadway play can be found on youtube!.

i hope this helps you out somehow just so you know what your getting yourself into lol

its harder than it looks!. your job in this musical is to make it look easy which ain't no walk in the park!.

the songs are great though put together!. my absolute favorite from the show is Johanna: reprised!.!.make me cry everytime!. lol

but it is dark too!.!.!.gory just to let you know!.

the chorus would be an easier route in this show although the music is still tedious!.

well, Good Luck!!!

if you want more insight into the show, like what civic theatre is doing with sweeney todd and could be helpful with you, feel free to contact me at bunnysoccer@sbcglobal!.net

again Good Luck!!!!!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well the #1 female role is Mrs!. Lovett - owns shop and partner in crime!.

There is the role of Sweeny Todd's daughter!.!. Can't recall her name!.

Sweeny's wife-- not a major part!.

Sweeny Todd was never a true story!.!.!. It was a fictional story, as you will read on the link I posted!. It's an old urban legend!Www@QuestionHome@Com

omg! i love sweeney todd!

mrs lovett and joanna are the main female characters!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try this website!. One is a Sondheim website that will give you info about the play!.

http://www!.sondheim!.com/works/sweeney_to!.!.!.

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Sweeney_Tod!.!.!.

http://www!.theatre-musical!.com/sweeneyto!.!.!.

As said before the main female parts are Johanna (Sweeny Todd's daughter- a soprano part) and Mrs Lovett (a mezzo/alto part)!. In case you don't don't know a mezzo is basically some one that can sing lower alto notes as well as a some of the higher soprano notes, but not the super high!. It is between the two!.

For Mrs!. Lovett who sings the "Worst Pies In London" go for the character!. She doesn't have to be the world's best singer!.!.!.!.she is kind of a lower class english lady!.

Hope this helps good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mrs lovett: makes the pies out of the bodies and secretly loves sweeney todd(sings worst pies in london)

johanna: is sweeney's daughter who is now judge turpins waurd and falls in love with anthony (very high voice look up some of her songs on youtube and listen to them)

His wife/beggar woman: accually is a a decently sized part and is very important to the story she was sweeney's wife but then poisoned herself and became a mad beggar woman

i think you should research these parts to really get a good feel for them and study which one matches your voice more

best of luck!! happy dreaming!!

also sweeney todd wasnt just a movie it started back as an old london legend (that is accually historically true for the most part except the whole judge turpin revenge part) then went to a play then steven sondhiem turned it into a braodway musical and tim burton made it into a fantastic movie Www@QuestionHome@Com

I completely believe in not exposing myself to the previous work of actors before me!. it's good to interpret the role the way you see it!. that way, you're creating, not imitating!.

go to the library and get a copy of the score, by stephen sondheim!. find a friend who plays piano or a music teacher and have them record two tapes for you: a track without melody and one with!. if you can read music, awesome!. if not, again have a teacher help you "plunk out" the notes!.

good luck! I have so much respect for your courage to try new things!

REMEMBER: you'll be more nervous if you're ill-prepared!. practice your butt off!

it's important to know what your range is, or what range you sing more comfortably in!. if you're a soprano, go for "green finch and linnet bird" (johanna's song) if you're an alto, try for mrs!. lovett!. I personally love "by the sea"!. she's talking to sweeney about their future together and she's so caught up in the fantasy that she doesn't realize he doesn't want any part of it!.!.!.!.funny stuff!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
