Question: The Importance of Being Earnest Help!?
I need to write a Monologue that is based in a "gap" or "silence" in the book "The Importance of Being Earnest"!. I am having trouble finding a good gap/silence in the book and if anyone can specify any I would really appreciate it!.

Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
ACT 1

After LANE announces "Mr!. Ernest Worthing!."

There's a gap between Lane's exit and his entrance with Jack/Ernest!.

You can write Algy's monologue, like he's thinking aloud!. "Well, well, why on earth is he here!? Is he here for Gwendolen!? Is he running away from something!?" Make him speculate about the reason Ernest/Jack is in town!. Or who Cecily is!. Remember he has the cigarette case and he wants to know why Ernest is using the name Jack and who Cecily is!.

You can also make it totally unrelated to TIOBE!. Think like Algernon!. Make it witty!. Algy is really brilliant!. He's one of my favorite characters!.

You can use most entrances and exits to develop a monologue!.

Possibles:
Lady Bracknell & Gwen's entrance!.

When Algy is playing the music pieces for Aunt Augusta!. He could be thinking aloud!. What's going on in the other room, etc!.

Gwendolen was on her way to the carriage!.

Cecily after saying "Horrid Political Economy! Horrid Geography! Horrid Horrid German!" and before Merriman comes in to announce Algernon/Ernest!.

There's a lot of possibilities!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
