I think a actor is bad when they don't sell it!. Like when you don't feel like they know what they are doing and they are not taking it seriously!.
I don't ike it when they aren't fully into there roles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What defines bad acting to me is if I am watching, and I feel like I am not 'getting' the whole of the character!. If I am NOT hanging on every word!.!.!.

In the open auditions I've been to, professional and non, I don't ever remember anyone telling anyone why they are bad or good!. (I have heard people say, "Hey that was great!" or make faces when something was bad!) That's why American Idol is so seriously misleading!. I think the reason why people aren't 'told' what they are doing wrong at an audition, is because it's not professional!. For most auditions something specific is being sought, so telling someone how they can be better is kind of mute!.!.!.UNLESS, the audition-er knows the person and perhaps knows they will be working with them again!.

Overall though, I think bad acting can come down to forum and can also be blamed on the director! If the pacing is bad, and/or if the staging or blocking is awkward!.!.!.etc!. Anything that pulls attention is generally the director not being as precise as he or she could!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As an actress I have seen several bad auditions and actors (sometimes i'm not so hot!) Actors do get rejected, but that just means you were not on the cast list!. Now for criticism, just watch american idol auditions and listen to Simon or Peirs on America's got talent!.
For the bad actor question, it is several things that make a bad actor or actress!. You are totally right when it comes to laziness, the play I am in right now, there are several people who are bringing the whole cast down!. Another factor is that, when singing, people cannot keep rythm or are tone-deaf!. When it comes to bad acting, it is someone who breaks character or is just themselves when reading the lines!.
They are very cheesy or very boring, many middle school plays are like this!. On film, it is basically the same as on stage you're bad in both, though some are a little better in one than the other!. One final trait of a bad actor is someone who just recites what the script/director says, they do not become the character!.
Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Actors who have zero emotion or expression in scenes, where it feels like they are just reading the script out loud in a high school classroom!. Like Nicholas Cage, he always has just about the same facial expression in every single movie he is in, and if its a sad scene, he has the "Nicholas Cage" face, if its a happy scene he has the "Nicholas Cage" face, its all really similar and has no passion!. Which really makes it boring!.

Then if the actor plays just about the same character in every movie!. For example Adam Sandler plays an amateur golfer in Happy Gilmore, An inexperienced father figure in Big Daddy, Lucifer's son in Little Nicky, and so on, and basically in every single movie he plays Adam Sandler with a little twist!. He has the same character in every movie!. Basically instead of it feeling like you're watching an amateur golfer or Lucifer's son, you feel like you're watching Adam Sandler act like an amateur golfer or Adam Sandler act like Lucifer's son!. That IS the point of acting, but it feels so forced and not real from him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A good illustration of an actor being rejected by a casting director occurs in Tootsie where Dustin Hoffman's character is told he is not wanted by the casting director!. This causes Hoffman's character to get the idea to get hired by posing as a woman!. NOw a bad actor is the opposite of an effective actor who exhibits these qualities: 1!. Is believeable, looks and sounds as though he means what he is saying and doing, seems to be the character!. 2!. Is free from errors!. remembers his lines, stays in character!. 3!. communicates, can be heard and understood, moves the audience to emotional responses or to think about a topic 4!. is effortless, everything he does and says he does and says with ease, nothing is forced 5!. stars have charsima, they charm us and we want to be like them or hang out with them, Bad acting is the opposite of the first four item!. It goes without saying that bad actirs have no charisma!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

On stage, awkward stillness in body language is usually criticised as all movements must be exaggerated, whereas in film it is the opposite, body language is supposed to look natural and thus more subtle!. So, I guess in terms of identifying an actor's flaws, a lot of it has to do with how he carries himself, and how he modifies his voice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wow, yeah, I consider bad actors when there is no feeling to the role that they are playing as, their reactions to the role does not fit at all!.!. Love actors who acts naturally, it so great that you really get into it yourself!!.!. :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Bad acting sounds fake, inauthentic to me!. Sometimes people over-act and it just rings false!. Bad, fake accents drive me crazy!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Bad actors don't 'react' to each other or their environment!. They say their lines but fail to establish a believable relationship on stage!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
