As for advice, here are a few suggestions!.!.!. Register for a free account with http://www!.massify!.com, and check out the AUDITIONS on that site!. Make some short videos of you acting in scenes (off book, of course) and put them on YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, Massify, and any other social networking site you can think of!. Massify is especially good for aspiring actors!. Do a google search and see if there are any independent filmmakers in your area (trust me, they're EVERYWHERE)!. You don't have to be NEAR New York or Los Angeles!. Just about every sizable city has at least one independent filmmaker - it could just be some crazy guy with a video camera, or it could even be a whole studio!. Ever since the indie revolution started a few years ago, it seems like there's practically a filmmaker (or wannabe) in every county of every state!. Watch actresses who are good at what they do and get steady work in film and television!. I personally recommend Summer Glau, Britt Irvin (aka Brittney Irvin in earlier work), Jami Gertz, Ellen Page, Ashley Scott, and Pamela Reed!. These actresses in particular seem to be pretty good at getting regular work in some pretty decent projects!. Be wary of anybody too high on the "food chain" (folks like Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, etc!.) as they are usually more likely to be typecast!. NEVER PAY TO AUDITION, NO MATTER WHAT THEY TELL YOU - Paying to audition is always a scam!. Period!. Go to your local library and find books on acting!. Especially if they are by Uta Hagen or other acting coaches!. Forget about "online acting schools"!. Most of them are a joke!. Avoid John Casablancas and John Robert Powers at all costs - they will try to hype you, but their "acting and modeling" school is way, WAY overpriced, and their idea of "modeling jobs" is to send models out on shoots to promote their "schools" Avoid porn at all costs, too!. I don't care what anybody says, that is not an avenue to a prosperous acting/modeling career!. But beware that porno producers will go to great lengths to convince people "desperate to get a break in showbusiness" otherwise!. They are full of crap!. It's easier to find books that will give you and idea of what an acting class will be like and of some of the concepts that you will learn in class!. Books like: Sanford Meisner On Acting The Art Of Acting Respect For Acting There are dvds for example on amazon that are acting classes as well!. But in the end, I believe that there is no good substitute for taking acting classes in a classroom/studio setting with a real good acting teacher and other classmates to watch and learn from!.
