Question: Help me with my future career
First of all serious answers only, please, this is a difficult situation for me so please be sensitive to that!. Now, I’m going into university fall 2009, that is to say I'm currently going into my last year of high school!. I've been in love with drama but never had the time to take it in school because of my focus on my more academic subjects but I'm absolutely obsessed with improv, Saturday Night Live, comedy writing type of stuff!. The problem is I'm afraid of becoming one of those people who is completely broke living in a cramped apartment in NYC with nothing but a dream that never gets fulfilled!. On the other hand, I'm interested in psychology mostly for the security of having my own practice and being financially secure!. I realize these are 2 polar opposite career/education choices, so it's sort of like my head vs!. my heart!. Really, there is nothing I'd love more than being the next Amy Poehler or Tina Fey, but my head keeps telling me to sacrifice my love of entertaining for something realistic!. Then again I don't want to look back on my boring life when I'm 60!.!.!.can anyone give me some advice/inspiration!? Please!?

The only fuel in life is passion!. Not money!. I met those "broke" people you mentioned, and some are happy, some are not!. I met people with money, some are happy, some are obsessed with it and cant enjoy it!.!.!. No one ensures you success!. In any job!. And even more, you have to define “success”!. First, make yourself clear if you want either a JOB or an artistic activity that will make you happy!. You should differentiate that being notorious is not necessary being talented, or, even worse, it will make you compromise many ethical things that you might not like to do or act in plays that you dont really like!. The commercial circuit not always cross roads with the pure artistic lane, so you have to be focused in what you deeply wish!. Have you ever wondered how renowned actors make a living when they are not on stage!? They all have a second income!. Do what nurtures you!. Best of luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do both!. Most people who persue acting need to have another job anyway!. Your chances of making a living at it are slim at best!. That doesn't mean you can't do it!. And "the security of having my own practice!?" Do you know how difficult it is to maintain a business!? You can get a job as a therapist if you want security!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Could you major in Psychology and minor in theater/comedic sketch writing (or whatever goes with that haha idk!) !?
Or would that be too much!? Then you could taste both sides and see where you want to go!. Because I know a lot of people think they want to do something and change their mind once they major in it!. You just have to think, I mean, lots of scenarios can happen like maybe once you start all the classes for psych you could realize that doing it will never make you happy, you might be financially stable, but you're unhappy!. But then even if you're in that cramped apartment, if you can get out of it to take an improv class or perform in front of an audience, it makes it worth it!.
I think you should just test the waters on both sides (but I'm in 10th grade, so I don't really know how hard that would be to do)

Good Luck <3

p!.s!. I LOVEEE TINA FEY + AMY POEHLER!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I will be the first one to tell you to go for your dreams!. I left a very successful career to do what I'm doing now!. I like a saying that I heard some time ago, which is: "It's better to regret the things you've done, rather than the things you haven't done!." So I would say go for it if that is really what you want, but go about it the right way and it can be something very realistic to achieve!. Maybe you won't be the next Amy or Tina, but of you work hard, you could very well be able to make a living at acting, but you have to work really, really, really hard and be passionate enough to do what is necessary!.
