Question: I'm planning on trying out for a play, any tips!?
I'm going to try out for the part of Laurie in Brighton Beach Memoirs!. I was wondering if she ever swears at any point in the script!. If she does, will refusing to swear affect my chances of getting a part!?

The play also starts on the first day of school and goes until November!. Being a freshman, do I have time for rehearsals!?

I look much too young for the part of Nora, but would it be a good idea to also try for her part, anyway!? If so, how do I make myself look older!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go as yourself and let the director decide if you look old enough (or young enough) for the character!. It's always a good idea to read the play before your try out (that way you would know about swearing, etc!.), and Brighton Beach Memoirs should be fairly easy to locate at the library!.

In general an actor has to say the lines the way they're written, so if the way a line is written, including swearing, makes you uncomfortable you're probably not right for the part!. However, I don't think you'll have that problem with Brighton Beach Memoirs!.

But my best advice is read the play!. And good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
