Question: What do you need to do (a check list) to create your own musical!?
I am planning on creating a musical of my own life!. I do not want to present it to the world until I have graduated college (currently in high school)!. Well, I just wanted to know the in's & out's!. I pretty much already know, but I don't want to forget anything!. also, please include tips on how to make it revolutionary (something that Broadway has never seen or heard before)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I just have to say that Broadway has seen EVERYTHING!. There is most likely not a show that doesn't have a similar plot to an already existing show!. It's smart that you want to base it on your life because ALL broadway shows are based on something (Besides like two) Chicago is based on real life events, Rent is based on an opera, Thoroughly Modern Millie is based on the movie and Kiss Me Kate is based on Taming of the Shrew!. These are just a few examples!. For starters you have to make sure that your life is exciting enough for a show!. I don't know you and I don't mean to be rude but I know alot of people who want to right a book or screen play about their life and honestly their lives are too boring for people to pay money to be entertained by them!. The main character, in this case you, needs a main objective that is worth so much to them that they would kill for it (In some cases literally)!. Then there needs to be something that gets in the way of this objective!. There are some shows that can get away with not having a main objective and just having something to bother the beginning stasis of the show!. The show will end when the main character has overcome the intrusion and either achieved their main objective or realized that they will never achieve it!. Your show needs a kick butt opening to get the show starting!. This needs to introduce the setting and characters!. It needs a big number to close act 1!. It also needs to be a comedy or tragedy or a drama!. La Boheme the opera that RENT is based on is a tragedy because the main Character Lucia "Mimi" dies!. In the musical she doesn't die so it becomes a Romance Drama even though it could be argued that Angel's death made it a tragedy!. A good thing to keep in mind is that characters show not tell!. Their actions should show their characteristics in their actions not by telling the audience!. In your show you shouldn't have anything that doesn't need to be in it!. A Musical is life without the boring parts, so things that don't add to the plot don't need to be there!. also don't make the mistake of putting songs in awkward spots!. You should only put songs in where the character is so overwhelmed with emotion that they have to sing about it!. Good luck with your show and I hope to see it on Broadway someday!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
