Question: How to ask the guy who plays Romeo to be more physical without sounding creepy!?
I am playing Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, and I want to encourage Romeo to touch me more in the play (on the arm and hands and whatnot) so it looks more realistic to the audience!. The trouble is, I don't want him to think I'm doing this because I like him or whatever!. Is there a way to say "I think we need to be more physical" without sounding like I want him in real life!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

during rehearsal, after you've finished the scene, ask the director (in front of everyone, you don't need to take them aside and make it seem like it's a big deal!. it totally isn't) if he/she thinks there should be more contact between you and romeo!. "should we be touching more!?" works just fine!. If he's immature enough to think that this means you want him, let him!. so what!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The best and most professional choice here is to express your concerns to the director!. It is possible that the director has not noticed the lack or if they have it has not bothered them enough to give an acting note on it!.

Please do not give other actors acting notes for the following reasons:
1!. It is not your place as another actor!.
2!. It is unprofessional!.
3!. It is usually not recieved well by other members of the cast!.
4!. You do not know what the director vision is!.
5!. You do not know how the scene looks from out in the audience!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

your best bet would be to express your concerns to the director and have THEM talk to you both so it doesnt seem like its coming from you, and so it sounds more like a technical thing than a personal one!.

if thats not an option, just give him permission, he might be uncertain about how you will take it!. say, "its ok if you are more physical in the scene, i'm totally fine with it!."

also he may just not know what to do, so give him specifics!. "ok, when you say that line, try putting your hand on my arm, and maybe i will do blah blah blah!." give him specific directions, again so it sounds more technical than personal, and at the same time give yourself as much direction as you give him ("and then i'll touch your hand here") so its more mutual and maybe will make him feel more comfy!. act like you want to work together on it to make it technically better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
