Question: Why does Toby go mad at the end of the live stage version of "Sweeney Todd"!?
This is for someone familiar with the live stage version of Stephen Sondheim's musical!.

I heard the Broadway Revival soundtrack of "Sweeney Todd", and at the end, Toby has apparently gone rather insane and has the last words of the show!. But this "highlights" recording does not indicate why, and someone had removed the liner notes to the CD!.

So why exactly does Toby go insane!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

***SPOILER***
In the end, Toby kills Sweeney Todd (after Todd kills Mrs!. Lovett) then mindlessly goes to the meat grinder and starts turning the handle like Mrs!. Lovett had told him to even though the police and Anthony and Joanna had come in (he doesn't seem to notice them or the fact that he had just slit Sweeney's throat - of course how this is staged or done depends on the director) You can judge for yourself, but I believe he has gone mad because Mrs!. Lovett was now taken from him and of course he had so much love for her but had come to realize she was making meat pies from dead people not to mention he was eating them!.!.!. The whole scene is madness!.

He was stuck in a basement and had just killed someone!. I was also a statement coinciding with the basis of the play: murder=insanity, shown by all the rest of the characters who killed also being crazy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

he found out that ms!.lovetts and swenney todd were cooking ppl into pies and then he also sees sweeney kill ms!.lovetts!.the movie is done a little diffent but i would say to see it and youll get it a little more!Www@QuestionHome@Com
