Question: If I am auditioning for the part of Donna in Mamma Mia, Is it okay to sing one of her songs from the song!?

My school might be doing Mamma Mia this year so I was wondering!. :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Cardinal rules of auditioning include not smelling like urine, being prepared, and never, ever, ever using material from the show you're auditioning for unless it is specifically requested!.
The director has something in mind for each of the characters - how s/he wants them to look, move, sound!. When you audition with your own idea of how the role you want should be played, you take a huge and negative risk!. At worst, you come off as arrogant and seeming that you think yourself above direction!. At best, you seem naive!. also, when your idea clashes with the directors', you lose any chance you had at the part!.
Be safe - pick a song and monologue from a different source that has a similar range and feel to the role you're hoping for!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's a general rule of thumb to not sing any songs from a given show at an audition for it, nor from any shows the company has done recently!. It's a good idea to at least familiarize yourself with the songs from the show, though, in case you're asked to sing them in a callback!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
