The best way to get your start acting on stage is to audition until you land a gig!. Don't be discouraged if you don't make a part, often times the casting directors are looking for a specific look or sound (in the case of musicals)!. Don't take the rejection as a sign of bad talent! Plenty of big stars have been turned down in many many auditions!

If you're unsure about how to audition, or how to work with a script then I would recommend taking an acting course at your local rec center!. also, for musicals, voice lessons are always a good idea!.

Make sure you don't take on too many thigns at once!.!.!.being involved in one show can practically take over all of your free time!

And if you don't make the high school musical but you still want to be a part of the show's process, ask the director about working backstage or assisting with rehearsals!. This will give you a first hand look at the process of creating a live stage show and help you once you do get the chance to be on stage!.
