Question: What is a good audition song to sing!?
i am in need of a good song to sing for local theatre productions!. in the past i've sang stuff from broadway's rent to colbie caillaitt (both have worked out well =) )but i would like to hear opinions on a better, strong audition song for me to use in the future, perhaps something more professional that shows range!? i am an alto, but i don't have a problem with hitting higher notes!. any suggestions are appreciated! =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to pick a song which suits the show you're auditioning for, as well as one which suits your voice!. It's a good idea to have a repertoire of songs which you keep up to performance standard, so you can choose an appropriate one for each audition - something in a similarstyle, and if you can manage it, something by the same composer from a different show!. I'd be including songs from Gilbert and Sullivan, some Gershwin, some "classics" - Cole Porter, Lerner and Loewe, Cy Coleman, Rogers and Hammerstein, some Andrew Lloyd Webber (but don't use it for any auditions except for ALW shows, and don't sing anything from Phantom, or "Don't Cry For Me Argentina"), some Sondheim - but again, best used only for Sondheim auditions, some rock musical stuff - Chess, Bat Boy, Witches of Eastwick, Hair!. Stay away from Wicked, Hairspray, RENT, Avenue Q, Legally Blonde, Grease and Les Mis as they're all horribly overdone!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It all depends on your range!. I find audition songs are easier when you know the background and like the backround!. If its for theater you should do a Broadway song to show you can sing Broadway!. Do something from a show you like or know and it will be easier and most likely better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Amazing Grace is always a good one!.
There is also Pon De Replay
This is me, Too little too late,Let it rain, baby it's you, truly madly deeply!.
Those are lots of choices!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pick an uptempo and ballad from a favorite Broadway show!.!.!. and don't forget the classics (My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Gypsy, etc!.)!. I wouldn't sing pop songs unless the show is new/trendy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
