Question: How do you NOT laugh in the middle of acting!?
There's a monologue that I have to say, and I think it's pretty damn hilarious (it's comedy!)!.

Only problem is I can't stop chuckling as I'm saying them since it's so funny!.

Are there any tricks as to hold in your laugh!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I used to do a lot of acting, the trick I found was to bite my lip a little, so that it was unnoticeable, but it'd take my mind off it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just think about how you will spoil it for the audience if you laugh!. If you want the audience to experience the same joy that you obviously get out of the monologue, then don't laugh!. It's like you are ruining it for the audience!. If you laugh, then it takes away about 50% of the comedy!. When I am in plays and I have a comical line to say, I just think about how unfair it would be for me to ruin it for them!. Hope that helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Certainly becoming desensitized can help!. Even the best "jokes" are only funny for just so long!.

I'm curious however, since you say monologue!. Are you alone on stage as a stand up comic would be!? Are there others on stage as well!? Are you designed to be a "straight man"!?

Distraction is often an effective method, and it is ACTING afterall!. Unless your character is supposed to emulate someone like Steven Wright, I suggest your delivery might be more effective if you actually find "some" humor in a comedic piece of script!.

Just my 2 "scents"Www@QuestionHome@Com

i try not to think about it!.!.!.i just memorize it and repeat it over and over until i get tired of w/e it might be!. I once did a skit on the movie The WaterBoy in my drama class and i couldn't stop laughing at some of the scenes that i was asked to perform!. But i got used to it after practicing many times!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You have got to say it so much that it isn't funny anymore!. Repeat it over and over again!. also, about 10 minutes before you go on stage (you may need more or less time) get inside the character's head!. What is he thinking!? Would he think it's funny!. GOod Luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just do the monologue over again and again until you're desensitized to it!. Or you could just get into character and not think about the comedic aspect to it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
