The beauty of Voice Over, is that so often all you have surrounding you is a script!. If you can read aloud, it is often what is required, in the most base sense!.

Depending on your voice, it's qualities, and you soliciting like you are crazed to do this, using demo CD's, there may be very specific target areas you can fit into very comfortably!. Obvioulsy not all voices are so unique that they are instantly recognizable as icons for a name brand product or character, but your issue should be more to find your own NICHE!.

Assume that you have watched a DVD that has animated characters, all backed by voice over!. Some of those, certianly will be very well known actors and actresses, already, in other venues/genres!. That doesn't mean you might ever be, but you can't know if you don't make the effort!.

I offer an example!.

I once knew a man in WA state, Michael, who did parts in our community theater, had a very deep, distinctive voice, Looked a bit like Pavarotti, was very well off living in a large house on Puget sound, with a view of Seattle!.

Most of his work was voice overs for commercials, but all he had to do, all day, or any part of a day, was have a script, and walk around his property with a recorder on!. That isn't always the case of course, but he considered the "JOB" to be as much a hobby that paid him, as a passion for doing some form of "acting"

I'm not a voice actor, I have no clue about the voice acting world, however, if I was really serious about becoming a voice actor what I would do is actually get into it, to learn by actually doing!.

There's many people and projects online looking for voice actors/actresses for amateur project and you could contribute your time for free!. Sure at first it wouldn't be stellar, but over time, you'd learn the tricks of the trade, lose your shyness, and so forth!.

First, you can take advantage of some ressources on the web:
http://www!.voiceacting!.com/VO_Training/G!.!.!.
http://www!.edgestudio!.com/voiceovertoday!.!.!.
http://www!.squidoo!.com/voiceactorresumet!.!.!.

To actually build a portfolio, like is mentioned in the squidoo link, I would recommend narrating books and pages, like contributing to LibriVox (http://librivox!.org/), that way you're not only building a portfolio, getting used to speaking at a microphone and no one, but you're also contributing to building a collection of free audiobooks for the world to enjoy!. You don't have to read an entire book, a chapter would suffice!.

You can also do some fandubbing, for anime or machinima or any other project really!. Good places to start for that:

Finally, to learn acting tips and get rid of your shyness, I'd recommend joining drama class or do any kind of theatre, I know you said you've never been involved in it but you can start now even if it's frightening and just taking those steps will begin to take care of being shy!.

It's a lot of work, and I know that what I'm going to say sounds cheesy but it doesn't make it any less true, with a lot of determination, hard work and the right attitude, I'm sure you'll be well on your way to becoming a voice actress!Www@QuestionHome@Com
