Question: Help -- My parents dont' take me seriously!!?
i've been in theater since the fourth grade!. i'm doing musicals year-round, and am in tap, jazz, and voice!. i really want to do auditions for like, just commercials and small stuff, not even like big shows or anything!. i want to get an agent, and some headshots, but the rents don't approve! they thing those things are for modeling!. what can i do!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

well take a step back and look at what you wrote here, first of all!. you say you want small stuff to audition for and make it sound like no big deal, but getting a professional agent not to mention professional headshots are REALLY expensive so saying you want to do those things but saying it like it's no big deal shows you might not know what you're talking about and a certain lack of experience and maturity!.!.!.which is a pressing point for most parents when they're kids are concerned; not to mention shelling out money!.

if you are under 18, which i'm assuming you are, you have to make a decision!. if you just like to do these things (tap jazz voice musicals) as a hobby, not as a career, then totally chill!. it sounds like you have enough on your plate to worry you or your parents about all the agent drama!. and honestily, you gotta have your rents permission to do any of that stuff if you're under 18 anyway, so you may just have to deal!.

if you're serious about pursuing acting, which with the kind of training and experience you've already had i don't see why not especially if it's a serious love, then take a step to show you're parents that you ARE serious!. (keep in mind, this doesn't guarentee they'll swing your way!!! but it certainly goes a long way) first and formost, think about the future!. do some research on colleges!. i know, random, but you're parents aren't thinking about you getting an agent, they WANT you to go to school and get an education!. and while that may not be your priority right now, it shows you're listening to them and willing to meet them half way!. show them that you've done homework on colleges that will continue your education in theatre/drama/tv/dance!.!.!.whatever!. as far as agents go, same thing; do the research!. check out what agents are in your area, get their info, show your parents!. once again, this doesn't mean they should or will give you what you want!. offer to get a job to pay for some/all of the headshots!. plus you need to sit down with them and have a talk!. lay it all out, in a professional manner, and see what they say!.

if all else fails, wait till you're 18 and then do what you think is best for your future!. until then, you should abide by the rules your parents set up!. but the fact that they pay for you to do all those extra curricular activities makes me think they're not so bad so work with them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Tell them it's your lifelong dream to be an actress and it will help boost your self confidence!. Parents usually fold when you mention confidence in your self or lifelong dreams!. Or you can explain that acting would open up many doors for you (which it will) into Journalism majors or Directing and such!. Parents always want the best for their kid's future so if they still say no you can wait till you are 18 and a legal adult!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Save your money, you have a long life ahead of you!. You can take drama in college!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just talk to them and see why they think this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
