Lovett is a sweet character yes she is in love with Sweeney and she is willing to protect and take care of Tobias she is very mothering and nurturing!. She is also very flirty and playful as well!. BUT there is a Dark Side to her as well she is the one who gives Sweeney the razor, and she be friends him by lying to him about Joanna (or not telling the full truth), it is also her idea to put the people in the pies!. She is the instigator and sort of master mind of the deeds while Sweeney is the enforcer!. She also invites Anthony to her place in hopes Todd does him in as well!. We don't see this at first because of the villainous of the other characters!. You need to ask yourself why does she lie to Sweeney, why is she infatuated with him, does she love him or was she trying to use him to get what she wants!. Mrs!. Lovett as sweet and fun loving as she can be is really a wolf in sheep's clothing!. So you should show your true nature ever once in a while when you help suggest to Mt!. Todd what he should do next, to make sure to throw out the beggar woman when she comes around at the same time distract Todd so he does not get a good look at her!. also your tenderness when you sing with Toby nothing is going to harm you and he descibes how evil Mr!.Todd is you are also feeling a bit convicted yourself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Everything you need to know is in the play!. Don't bring anything extra into it!. also look in the lyrics for characterization clues; Sondheim advances characterization through music!. also look at what others say about her and how they react to her, not just her lines!. She'd do anything to keep him!. Including baking his victims into pies!. In my honest opinion, she's not a BAD person, just misguided and desperate!.
