Question: Which is easier: writing a play yourself or just directing a play that's already written!?
My friend and I are really bored this summer, so we are directing this little play with a couple other kids!. I have written a play before, but I had a lot more time and I was doing it by myself, so I didn't have to worry about anyone else's opinion!. I was thinking that it might be easier if I find a short play online!. However, I don't know anything about Copyright, and I certainly can't afford to buy the rights to anything!. I'm looking for plays, not musicals!. What should I do!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Who is viewing the play, are they paying!? If you are just doing the play for yourselves, buy the scripts and do the play!.

If you are charging an admission fee, you must pay the license fee and make an agreement to only perform the play in certain circumstances!.

For example, you can only perform the play at Theatre Guild of Minneapolis from July 17 through August 1st, a total of 15 times!. You would agree not to move the location (different contracts allow tours), increase the number of performances, and things like that!. More recent and popular plays or musicals like Wicked cost more than old staples like Our Town!.

Some plays are out of copyright and can be performed by anyone without cost like Shakespeare and Moliere which is why Shakespeare can be so popular with local theatre groups!. ;-)

Dramatist Play Service is a major licensing agent for playwrights!.

I also enclosed the link for the Drama Book Store which was my favorite resource!.

Have a great summer!

P!.S!. I think writing's hard!. Keep up the good work!Www@QuestionHome@Com

As a playwright I admire your fortitude in writing short plays earlier!.

I would do something already in the public domain or if it is for yourselves you can find scripts online!.

Shakespeare is a good idea -- how about something funny like Much Ado About Nothing or Love`s Labour Lost!? Or Twelfth Night -- one of my favorites!Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think you should just write a short play yourself!.
that way you dont have to worry about any rights or whatever!.
and if someone doesnt like a part of your play, you should ask them how to make it better, and if they have no idea, then that's because it realy CANT be made any better :DWww@QuestionHome@Com
