Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I have seen the Phantom of the Opera in NYC several times and it is a FANTASTIC production!.!.!.one of the best!. To portray the audience (for instance when Christine Daae sings "Think of Me" in the beginning in place of Carlotta) the actress faces the back of the stage (away from the real audience), and using special effects they make the real audience feel likw they r backstage and the audience watching chrisitine is in front of them!. the chandelier crashes on to the stage!. And funnily enough, at the Majestic Theater in NY where the show plays, two huge chandeliers hang in the theater!.!.!.the real one built with the theater, and the prop one that falls during the show! SEE THE SHOW!! however!.!.!.Wicked is better! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com There's nothing like seeing a show live, and that is VERY true for Phantom!. The movie cut a lot out and rearranged the story, so if you see the stage version, it will be much more detailed [and incredibly amazing!.!.!.there's a reason it's the longest-running show on Broadway ;) ]!. Anyways, like the movie, the show is sort of a travel-back-in-time show, with the chandelier rising bringing us back to the 1800's!. So you are seeing it play out onstage, with the added effect of the chandelier hanging over you in the audience, bringing you further into the world!. [However, the chandelier crashing live is EXTREMELY anti-climatic!.!.!.very slow on Broadway and in tours, but the Las Vegas production is quite spectacular and actually pretty scary!.] Seeing it live is a different experience, and the movie only captured a snippet of the magic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com there are numerous theatres in the country capable of reproducing the falling chandelier,, i have seen this show so many times(its the wifes favourite)and it is fantastic on stage,,,while the film was good the stage show is better, my particular favourite male lead(while not taking anything away from the female leads)is peter karrie if you get the chance to see him on stage he is absolutely made for the part and is fantastic,,,if you are in any doubt buy a cd "peter karrie unmasked"Www@QuestionHome@Com The chandelier hangs in the middle of the audience, and it swings down across, almost skimming the heads of the audience members, and crashes in the middle of the stage!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The chandelier just falls onto the stage!.
