I would pick up some books on acting at your library!. They usually have some great activities in them!. also, there are some good ones on the net!. It is very difficult to practice acting by yourself, because acting is mainly about reacting to other actors!. I would practice breathing exercises and vocal exercises such as counting or saying your vowels in different tones, alternating from high to low in pitch!. (Always breathing from your diaphram!.) You could also do stretches while doing this, remembering that you also have muscles in your face!. Another thing to remember is that actors do not act, they react and "just do"!. One cannot just portray sad, happy, etc!. You have to learn to be in the moment, as if every time you say your line, it's the first time!. There is always a reason why you are doing or saying what you are!. I would find a monologue from a library book to practice with, preferably one from a play and not one just written specifically to be a monologe!. I would read the entire play so you have all of the background information!. Then, when you find your monologue, completely break it down, and write verbs on the side of the script describing why you are saying or doing what you are!. This will give you reason and a purpose!. I KNOW it is very tedious, but it WILL help you! I promise! :) As far as getting rid of the English accent, I would get a hold of a recording of someone, perhaps a friend or something you find elsewhere, who has the accent you are trying to achieve, and play it over and over stopping and starting it where ever you find it nessicary, and try to mimic the speech patterns!. While this is not a good technique to study acting (as then you are only copying) it may work for trying to achieve a certian pattern of speech!. And I know you cannot go to classes for one reason or another, but if you are serious and have a passion for it, it is TOTALLY worth it! I hope this information was helpful!. I would try the latter, and please ask me any other questions if I was not clear!. I know it was a lot of complex instruction all at once!. And good luck in your endevor! Break a leg! ; ) I wish you all the best!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

depends what kind of actor you'd like to be!. i like to do a lot of comedy in plays so i just make up crazy characters in the mirror, pulling faces and changing my voice and miming my props!. if you're looking to be a more serious or dramatic actor, perhaps work on crying, raising your voice and all kinds of emotions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

ok elocution/speech classes help! they will help w/ #3 and #2!. at home you can just work on saying words any words, phrases, anything into a voice recorder at home so you have an idea how you sound!. you want a different accent: use the same technique but say a line from a movie with the same accent or voice (the movie will be just before that moment on pause) then turn the movie back on play and play the recording: so you can see how similar the voice sounds!. trust me it works so well! also it helps to say the whatever with the same emotion as the person =) i'm in the same situation as you and this is pretty much working excellently (except the fact that i am trying to get rid of a San Diego accent)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just yesterday, I sent out a newsletter from my website for new and aspiring actors on this very subject!
I've been getting a lot of questions about this lately and my way of looking at it is as follows!.
If you don't have the money to take acting classes and can't do it at the moment, then I say at least do something! So I applaud you for looking for alternatives!.

One such alternative, although it cannot replace being in class with your peers and watching them work, working together with them and getting direct feedback from your teacher, is to take advantage of DVD's on acting technique!.
Two that I know of and recommend are by
Uta Hagen and the other is by Sanford Meisner!.
They are two of the greatest acting teachers of all time!.

So that's one more idea for you!

With regard to the money issue (not sure if that is the reason why you can't take classes or not), have a look at this page on my site!. It has links to many pages that have to do with starting an acting career including how to get your parents on your side and supporting your acting career and how to raise the money to fund your career!. http://www!.actingcareerstartup!.com/teen_!.!.!.

Good luck!
