Question:

Its been announced recentley that Alexia Khadime is gonna be taking over from Kerry Elliss as elphaba in wicked ( in london) Im going to see wicked in July and so obviously ill be seeing Alexia!.

Now what im asking is do you think she'll be a good Elphaba!?

I am in no way trying to be racist, so please understand that, im just concerned that her 'voice' wont fit elphaba's character!. I know Alexia has an amazing voice coz apparantly she was amzazing in the lion king show, i just cant imagine her singing songs like defying gravity!. In the lion king she was perfect because lion king is abit of an african show and she had the perfect voice, but i just cant picture her playing elphaba!?

I think that we should wait until we hear her to judge too much, because for all we know she may well be amazing!. I highly doubt she would have been cast if the producers thought her voice wasn't right!. As for the voice/racial debate, there's already been Saycon Sengbloh on Broadway (I think she was in the Broadway production), and she had a very good voice which just gave a different edge to the role!. Each Elphaba has had their own original/unique voice regardless of their colour/origin!. I can kind of see where you may be coming from here and appreciate completely that this isn't a racist debate, but again, let's just hear her first, then we can judge!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

What is the perfect voice for Elphaba!? I dont think you can judge her before you see her!. If you see her in the show and dont like the way she plays or sings the role then fine, but you cant just say she wont make a good elphaba because her last role was in 'a bit of an african show'!. She may open your eyes to whole new elphaba!
I loved Idina Menzel and Kerry Ellis but you gotta keep the show and the character fresh!. I saw Alexia Khadime in the lion king and i thought she was wonderful and had a beautiful, rich and powerful voice!. In my opinion, i think she will make a fantastic Elphaba!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
