Question: Beginning to perform in musicals!?
I didn't really know how to word my question!

I am a a LOVER of musicals!. I have been obsessed with many since I was about ten when I was introduced to the score of RENT in my vocal class!. I have always wanted to be on stage, but have somehow never been able to get past school and church plays!.

I grew up in an EXTREMELY small town, so there were not very many opportunities there!. I am now 20 and in college, and I am wondering if it is too late for me!?! Most people my age have had lots of formal training by now!. I have had about 11 years of dance (still ongoing) and a few years of vocal training, but no drama classes!.

Is it too late for me to get involved in musical theater!? How would I even go about doing so!? I am so naive! I'm not exactly trying to aim for Broadway, just local theater!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you are in college this is the perfect time to begin!. See if you can audition for some of your colleges productions!. You mention that most of the people your age have had lots of formal training but that is not necessarily true!. There are many people who start out at your age!.

There are also many actors out there who have had no dance or vocal training so you already have a head start!. If you are looking at local theatre you have a great shot at being cast even if it is to begin with simply someone in the chorus or dance numbers!.

The best place to begin is to go to your colleges theatre department and ask them who the local community theatre companies are and if they know when the upcoming auditions are!. Then just go and audition!. My guess is you will find you are just the right age!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's never too late to start community theatre!. Musical theatre is so amazing and if you have a passion then start now!. You'll be surprised how much your acting will grow over just one musical!. Plus with the dance and vocal training, you will do fine!.
