Once a musical is up and running, the actor could have a call time of noon or so for a matinee or 6pm or so for an evening performance!. But the rest of the day is not exactly "free!." A Broadway actor has "homework" in a sense because he needs to stay current on his audition songs and monologues; he needs to stay in dance classes; and he needs to keep fit!. So days can be occupied with dance classes, working out, sessions with vocal coaches or in acting classes, or auditioning for the next project!. Sometimes trhe actor will teach a class in order to be able to take a class for no charge at a studio or gym!. Oftentimes, more mundane things occupy their time, like putting ads in papers to sublet the apartment if he's going out on tour or updating the picture and resume or updating his website!. Some take time to create cabaret shows for themselves, again, working on new material, renting piano bars, auditioning accompanists, and publicizing the event!. And every now and then there are workshops for groups of students visiting NYC, charity work for organizations like Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, or carolling downtown during DecemberWww@QuestionHome@Com
